Meet the New Library Director!
Beginning June 1 Blair Nelson will be working as the new library director. Nelson was raised and educated in Wisconsin, receiving a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science and a Bachelor’s in Communications, with a focus on media and technology. His extensive background includes fundraising and grant writing which have helped him secure several successful library programs and projects for the Tracy Public Library in Minnesota where he's been employed as Library Director. Nelson has also worked as a staff writer for the Pine County Courier and the Hinckley News, and his work as a freelance writer and film critic has appeared in a number of publications, including Zenith City Weekly, Reader Weekly and Rootprints, a magazine of the St. Louis County Historical Society.
Nelson said he was drawn to the opportunity in Bayfield because the area was much closer to his heart. “I’m from Wisconsin,” he said. “I grew up in La Crosse and lived in Marshfield until about 2000. Some of my mom’s relatives have a cabin in Iron River and her family lived in Ashland. When we’d visit, we’d always go up to Bayfield, so I know the area well.” He and his wife Shannon have two children – an 8-year-old daughter, McKenna, and a 14-month-old son, Reed.
An Open House at the library will be held on Wednesday, June 11 from 1:00 - 5:00 to welcome Blair Nelson and to thank Interim Director Teresa Weber.
